More changes

Now I have 3 admits out of 3 applications.

It's totally unexpected given that this year is one of the toughest years for MBA applications.....

Now.....I have to look for funding and resources.

It's going to be fun ride trying to sort everything out whilst working full time.....

Joy.....oh...joy...

Anthem for Doomed Youth

What passing-bells for those who die as cattle?
Only the monstrous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.
No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells;
Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,
The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
And bugles calling for them from sad shires.
What candles may be held to speed them all?
Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes
Shall shine the holy glimmers of good-byes.
The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;
Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,
And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.

Dow hovers around 8,000 points

The Dow seems to be remain rather steady at 8,000 points amidst fears of a swine flu worsening and the rumours of selected US Banks' need for further recapitalisation.

However there is some indication that investors are getting rather nervous pending the final results of the US Banks' stress test and on fears that the swine flu will become a full-blown world-side pandemic.

What's next? I don't think the world can handle a medical emergency. The Great Recession may just become the Great Depression.

Will Dow fall below 6,000 points?

Today, the Dow rallied and rose 240 points on the back of news from BoA that they will be profitable this year and GE may not need the government bail-out afterall....

Is the rise sustainable? Are we over the hurdle?
Are people happy with job losses and are still spending? Is consumer spending stable and looking on an uptrend?

Or is it because we have just put a screen over ourselves again and eased accounting rules?

Are we just fooling ourselves into another patch of financial accounting ingenuity?

Fundamentally I think most companies aren't making money from core operations and a significant chunk of profitability from yesteryears could be from financial engineering....

Reflection.....

Can Malaysia ever grow and emerge from its shadows of corruption and inefficiency?

In my humble opinion....yes!
But - and a BIG BUT - it will take tremendous efforts and re-education / cleansing of "certain" way-of-life currently being practiced.... which will certainly take years to eradicate

Whilst there are certainly benefits to corruption and inefficiency that could accrue to individuals, I am quite sure society as a whole suffers....as social good is diminished through such "practices"

So what can a humble citizen do in such situation? Wage a personal war? Succumb and join the dark side?
